German Jewish community ‘sad and aghast’ at rape-murder of Jewish teen
The Jewish community of Mainz, Germany, reacts with shock and horror to the news that a 14-year-old member of the community is found dead Thursday near the city of Wiesbaden.
“I am as shocked, sad and aghast about the violent death of Susanna as one can be,” says Rabbi Aharon Ran Vernikovsky, who leads the Mainz Jewish community. “I am shocked and speechless,” he tells the Juedische Allgemeine weekly, adding that the community will do everything in its power to help and support her family.
Susanna F.’s case has preoccupied German media for several days. News of her body’s discovery Thursday, and police confirmation that she was raped and murdered, allegedly by two Muslim asylum seekers, made headlines nationwide, though most newspapers did not initially mention the fact that she was Jewish.
Ben Rhodes, who served as President Obama’s campaign speechwriter and later his deputy national security adviser, said Monday that he would be “surprised” that a private intelligence agency with ties to the Israeli government were “somehow operating without the knowledge of the Israeli government.” Rhodes said in an interview Monday night on CBSN’s “Red & Blue” that the group, Black Cube, was involved in collecting information about former President Obama and some officials.

The newspaper reported: “A disgusting, brutal, anti-Semitic incident took place at Bahnhof Zoo last night. The victims: three young Jews. The perpetrators: three young Arabs. They said, among other things: ‘This is our town, our precinct. If I see you again, I’ll slit your throat, you [expletive] Jew.’”

How stupid do you have to be to bring toddlers to a protest? When my children were small, I lived in Washington, DC. There were plenty of protests, some peaceful, some not so peaceful. But I never made a decision to cart the kids to a protest! Managing small children in a peaceful crowd is difficult enough. My ex-wife once lost our daughter in a crowd at a mall. But the last place I’d bring my kids, unless I was hoping to secure martyrdom for my family, would be a violent protest along the Israeli-Gaza border.

The Hamas “dead baby” strategy – to cause as many civilian casualties as possible by firing its deadly rockets from schools and densely populated areas – is producing understandable outrage around the world. What is not understandable is why the outrage is directed against Israel, which is a victim of this strategy, rather than against Hamas, which is its perpetrator. Hamas knew exactly what it was doing when it fired more than 6,000 rockets at Israeli kindergartens, elementary schools and playgrounds from behind its own children. It was playing Russian roulette with the lives of Israeli children in order to provoke a defensive response from Israel.
